Tui Na
Tui Na is one of the Four Branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), along with acupuncture, herbal medicine and food therapy.
Pronounced “twee-nah,” Tui Na massage addresses specific patterns of disharmony in the body and is frequently used in combination with other TCVM modalities. Tui Na works by applying pressure to acupoints, meridians and groups of muscles or nerves to remove blockages that prevent the free flow of Qi. Removing these blockages restores the balance of Qi in the body, leading to improved health and vitality.
Some techniques include: straight pushing, pushing apart, kneading, circular rubbing, pinching and pulling, and pressing. Many of these techniques can be taught to owners to provide additional treatment at home between visits.
Do not confuse Tui Na with “massage therapy” performed by non-certified personnel. Tui Na treatment is developed according to TCVM theory: Yin-Yang, Five Elements, Eight Principles, and Zang-Fu Physiology and Pathology.
