Vaccines, Vaccine Titers, And Preventive Medicine

We provide both core and lifestyle vaccines for dogs and cats. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommends that all dogs receive canine distemper, parvovirus, and rabies vaccinations. Core vaccines for cats include feline distemper, and rabies. We also offer bordetella, leptospirosis, lyme disease, canine influenza, and feline leukemia vaccinations. Puppies and kittens should receive their first set of vaccines by eight weeks of age and will be put on a boostering schedule by our veterinarians to meet the needs or your specific pet.

While an up to date rabies vaccination is required by law for all dogs and cats (with the exception of specific health conditions), we recommend and offer vaccine titers (checking the levels of vaccine antibody in your animals body) to determine if annual vaccinations are necessary. This is appropriate for any adult pet who has received a proper vaccination protocol as a puppy or kitten.

We recommend annual wellness exams for adult dogs and cats between one and seven years old. Puppies, kittens, and senior pets should have more frequent examinations. At each check-up, we record your pet’s weight, ask about eating habits and exercise, and discuss parasite control. Our veterinarians also check for specific breed specific issues and looks for signs that could indicate an underlying disease such as diabetes and signs of cancer. You also have the chance to get help with any behavioral concerns you may have.
