Herbal Medicine is one of the Four Branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), along with acupuncture, Tui Na, and food therapy.
Herbs are often recommended for use along with acupuncture or any other TCVM modality as they enhance the effectiveness and allow for longer term effects and greater time periods between treatments. Treatment is developed according to TCVM theory: Yin-Yang, Five Elements, Eight Principles, and Zang-Fu Physiology and Pathology. Herbs are often chosen for treatment based on their temperature/energy, taste, direction of energy, and channel organ. Herbs are always selected with care and should only be used under the direct supervision of a TCVM practitioner.
